About Gracie
Meet Gracie, a border collie mix, who is sweet and sassy with the most beautiful eye liner eyes. Gracie is about 1.5-2 years old and is on the smaller size, weighing in around 45 pounds. She was found as a stray and found herself in a shelter in Georgia. She is heartworm negative and has been living with her foster family in the North Georgia area.
Gracie was quick to connect and earned her medium to high Velcro badge within days. She loves to be with her humans. She has a loving and eager to please personality. If you sit down, you best prepare for cuddly kisses. If you’re not one to allow Gracie on your sofa, she’s not your gal! She enjoys chewing on bully sticks, tackling a stuffed Kong, tossing a toy indoors, and just being with her person. She will follow her human step for step and keep a close eye. Gracie enjoys short, easy strolls and has shown no interest in jogging or playing fetch outdoors. She adores being a loyal companion who will sit on the back deck at sundown, stroll the yard over a cup of coffee, or just hang out while you tackle indoor chores. Gracie loads well and rides well. She has shown so much improvement on leashed walks and is eager to go on any adventure with her human.
Gracie was a quick learner with potty training. She had a couple oopsies but her fosters quickly realized how she communicated to let them know she needed to go outside. Gracie still needs a little motivation (aka treats) to voluntarily retreat to her crate but once she’s crated, she’s quiet as a mouse as long as she can’t see her humans scurrying about. She is food motivated so learning to sit and lie down was quick and easy for her. Her forever home will need to continue working on basic commands like stay, down, baby gate jumping, and counter surfing. She has the cutest wiggly butt when she’s excited so naturally that energy shifts to jumping up to greet her people and she’s become quite the jumping Houdini of all baby gates, short and tall. Gracie’s new family would need to be committed to continuing extending grace and having patience with her training, socialization, and positive reinforcement to help continue building her confidence. She needs to be crated when left alone as she learns boundaries.
Gracie is quite dog selective, so her ideal forever home would be a single dog household with children who are older than the age of 12. Gracie has not been cat tested but has shown no desire to chase her foster family’s horses or random wild animals. She has one heck of a vertical so a fenced-in yard is a must and breed experience is recommended. No apartment or condos as Gracie enjoys communicating with those she sees and hears. No electric fences. It’s best if Gracie’s new family is home more than not. Gracie is being fostered in Dawsonville, Georgia.
Applicants must have a satisfactory vet reference which includes an annual exam, vaccines, a heartworm test, and purchase of monthly, year-round heartworm preventatives.
